Francis Carroll Wilson

October 16, 1928 - August 11, 2015

OBITUARY Francis Carroll Wilson, Sr., known as Frank, was born on October 16, 1928 to the late Alvin D. and Susie E. Mitchell Wilson, Sr. He was called home to rest on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by two sons: Danny Clark and Garland Lee Wilson. Also preceding him death were 6 brothers: William, Marshall Sr., Casey Sr., Vernal Grant, Eugene Sr., and Alvin Jr. Wilson; and 8 sisters: Beatrice Craig, Fannie Norris, Virginia Scearce, Rilda Catherine Butler, Thelma Roberta Sidney, Susie Mitchell Doty, Dorothy Wilson, and Ida Clay Mosley. He attended the Boston Elementary School and graduated from Ed Davis High School, Georgetown, Kentucky. He was united in Holy Matrimony to Sue Wyne Dalton on July 20, 1950 and was a loving and devoted husband for 65 years. Frank confessed a hope in Christ as his Savior at an early age and was baptized into the Zion Baptist Church, Georgetown, KY where he remained a faithful member until his passing. At Zion, he served as a Deacon, Treasurer and was also a member of the Men’s Choir. Frank told the story of how he had intended on going to college, after completing high school, to study to be a dentist. When he could not get into Kentucky State University because the veterans were getting out of the service, he worked at a tobacco factory for that winter. His brother had been working at Jonabell, a race horse farm and got him a job there. He worked there as a Groom for over 55 years before retiring. In addition, his dedication to the horse industry led him to work at other horse farms in Kentucky; at Keeneland and Fasig Tipton during the horse sales, at Bob Mickler’s Equestrian Apparel, along with traveling to Columbus, OH and Saratoga, NY to care for horses. He was proud to say that he helped “break” the first American horse to win the English Derby. An avid sports fan, he was particularly interested in the Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Reds. Along with his wife Sue, he leaves to cherish his memories: 3 daughters, Carolyn Sue (Rev. John E.) Reese, Lexington, KY; Ometriss Greta Hubbard, Baltimore, MD and Della Mae (Edgar) Duncan, Inglewood, CA; 2 sons: Francis Carroll Jr. (Johnatter) and Rev. Larry Alonzo (Wanda) Wilson, both of Lexington. 15 grandchildren: Jená, Jeremy, Kimberly, Willie (James), Kerri, Cacy, Jamaica, Jazmine, Daneka, Tornell, Lamar(Cherise), Andrew(Candace), Landen, Doretha and Leigh(John). 26 great-grandchildren: Shantoya(Ryan), Destiny, Dajueanay, Chance, Anya, Dushawn, Tera, Serenity, James, Jacen, Joah, Jatajza, DeAun, D’Nya, Brycen, Amor, Ziontae, Lajean, Lequan, Cai, Sincere, Journee, Jayce, Shawntez, Maddox and John III. One brother: Julian (Anna) Wilson; 2 sisters: Marzee Ingram and Ella (James “Cooley”) Clay One brother –in-law: Willie Larue Mosley; 3 sisters-in-law: Virginia Sidney, Willie Dalton, and Rosa Lee Wilson; A loving church family, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
