Marian O'neal Overstreet Tucker Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Marian O’neal Overstreet Tucker was born in Garrard County on November 21, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Hester (Warren) and Daniel Webster Overstreet, Sr. She was preceded in death by her oldest sister Anna Margaret Overstreet (James) Burdette, her younger brothers James Darnell Overstreet and Daniel “Butch” Webster Overstreet, Jr. Marian accepted Jesus Christ as her savior and was a member of Pleasant Run Baptist Church. She also attended Takoma Park Baptist Church in Washington, DC. Marian is a 1954 graduate of Mason High School where she was a member of the Dramatic Club and participated in the Speech Festival. Marian was an exceptional nursing student, and she earned her nursing diploma from Berea College on June 30, 1958. She also took numerous college classes and was 10 credits shy of earning her bachelor’s degree in gerontology. Marian took great joy in learning new things as she was an avid reader and enjoyed novels, poetry, and biographies. She also enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, and making jewelry. She had a flair for decorating and gardening. Marian had a solid career in nursing and was employed by the Central Baptist Hospital, Bethesda Naval Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center, and the Washington Baptist Home as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She spent most of her career at the Washington Home. In 1979 before her retirement, she was recognized for Outstanding Service as a unit charge nurse. Marian is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years Mr. William Lawrence Tucker, Sr. along with her loving son and daughter, William Lawrence Tucker, Jr. D and Sherry Tucker of Adelphi, MD; four siblings, Burnace (Nettie Jane) Overstreet of Peoria, AZ; Frances Delores (Robert William) Wright of Louisville, KY; Saundra Marie (Dean Jerome) Scott of Longmont, CO; and Wilma Jean (Rev. Kenneth Joe) Clay of Lexington, KY; sister-in-law Denise Overstreet widow of James Darnell of Louisville, KY; 14 nephews; 15 nieces, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
