James Henry Hocker

James Henry Hocker was born in Madison County, June 17, 1929, to the late Thomas Howard and Allie Elizabeth Hocker. He peacefully departed this life on Tuesday, January 30 th , 8:30am at Baptist Health Hospital Lexington, Kentucky. He accepted Christ at an early age and baptized by the Rev Searcy Parks. He served as a deacon for over 70 years, played the piano, organ and sang in the church. As a child growing up on a farm, he'd helped his parents attend the farm before heading to school. After graduating from Richmond high school, he served in the armed forces in the Korea war as medic and after the war, he received an honorable discharged. After the war, he decided to further his education by attending college at Kentucky State (College) University and majoring in agriculture and minoring in music. Dad first employer was the federal government, V.A. Hospital Leestown Road Lexington, KY, and Bluegrass Army Depot. He also volunteer is time as a Fireman and White's Funeral Home. Also, he loved working with hands (as his father did) by working on cars, electrical, and plumbing. Dad received The Ambassador Medal for being Korean War Veteran and a letter from the late former Governor Julian Carroll for being the oldest Korean War Veteran. Dad was a Master of Ashler Lodge for many years, then another house Arch Royal 27 in Rank, and he remain he remain in Bluegrass Consistory #46 Past Master 32 degree Mason, member of the Madison County Extension Homemaker's Club, 991/2 Men's choir, Laymen’s, Preceded in death: wives Barbara Ballard Hocker, Leora Hocker and Beatrice Sears Hocker; children: James Henry Hocker, Jr, Darryl Thomas Ballard; stepchildren: Owen O’Neal Ballard and Michael Ballard; Sister in-law: Mary Helen Campbell and Brother in-law Thomas Sears, Jr. He leaves a sister Georgia Mae Goodloe and his children: William Howard Hocker, Pamela Mae Hocker, Valarie (Frank)Floyd, Terrance (Alice)Dwight Hocker, Anthony (Donna)Ballard, Kevin (Anyette)LeRoy Hocker, and Mary Elizabeth Hocker, Carol Mundy. Stepchildren Otis (Cynthia)Ballard, Marie Rose, and Betsy Campbell. Host of Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren, cousins, nephews, and nieces Devoted niece Edna Elizabeth Jackson, and Devoted granddaughter Yolanda Williams, Devoted cousins Brenda Shearer and Marjorie Green. Sister in-law Wanda Ballard and Brothers in-law Larry and Randall Ballard Special friends: Ms. Louise Turner, Pam Parks, and Nancy Richardson
