Laura D Baker.Brown

Laura D. Baker-Brown 78, a native of Lexington, KY departed her life on January 30th, 2025, in Tarboro,NC. Laura was 1 of 13 children born April 21st, 1946, to the late Rev. Henry B Brown and Lula Mae Carter Brown-Fishback and raised in Jessamine County. She attended as well as graduated from the Jessamine Public School in 1964. Laura at an early age accepted Christ and was a member of Marble Creek Baptist Church. Later she married Jimmie Batts, and to this union, a son, A. Maurice Batts, was born in 1968. Laura was a member of St John Baptist Church over the course of many years. She served on the Women’s usher Board, and member of the Women’s, and Combine Choir. In 1977, Laura married retired SSgt. Fred L. Baker and, to this union, a daughter, Shana, was born in 1975. Laura was an employee of GE lighting for many years, and she loved to be of service to others from sales representative for Avon to caring for children, domestic, and healthcare service. Laura remained a member of St. John Baptist Church until 2001 when she relocated to North Carolina to help care for her former spouse, Jimmie Batts, until his passing in 2002. She then moved her membership to Rose Chapel and then to Shekinah Glory Church until she was unable to attend. She wanted to continue what she knew was her heart's calling which was servitude to others. She became a Certified Nurse Aide with the help of her daughter in 2013 and employed with Wilson Pine, Comfort Care, and In-Home Private Duty Nurse Aide until her health wouldn’t permit her. Laura had a love for God and held fast to HIS WORD, a strength and a passion to help others and she imputed that into her children. She was an example of what strength beyond measure and trust in the Lord looked like and she’ll be greatly missed. Laura precedes in death, both parents, Rev. Henry Brown and Lula Mae Brown-Fishback, 2 brothers, Marion and Robert Brown, and a sister, Shirley Canada. She leaves to cherish her memory: a son, A. Maurice Batts of Durham, NC, a daughter, Shana (Charles) Murray of Lithia Springs, GA, 3 sisters, Francis Cartier of Lexington, Ky, Estevior Baker and Geraldine (Jordan)Meads, both of Nicholasville, KY, 6 brothers Henry, Vance, and Jamie Brown, all in Lexington, KY, Grant Brown of Ft Wayne, IN, James Brown of Canton, OH, and Slyvester (Marvetta) Brown of Altadena, CA, and host of niece, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
