Oliver Lamont Smith

On October 27, 2024, after a lengthy illness God in infinite wisdom and great mercy chose to close the eyes of one of His Sons in the person of: Oliver Lamont Smith. Lamont or “Pud” as he was known was the oldest Son born, April 24,1961 to the union of his loving parents: the late Oliver Merridth “Pud” Smith Jr. and Dorothy Ella Patton Smith. He was educated in the Fayette County public school System being a 1980 graduate of the Bryan Station Senior High School. Lamont was fun loving, comical, self-assuming, and an avid sports fan. He could be found rooting for his University of Louisville Football and Basketball games, during the NFL season he cheered for the Miami Dolphins and the Cincinnati Bengals. In the NBA it was all about his Los Angeles Lakers and he loved the Cincinnati Reds. If you talked about one of his teams and you would see another side of Lamont. He loved it when his nephews would call to talk about sports, and he would always offer them life lessons in the conversation. He loved watching movies and sharing his movies with family and friends. His two favorite movies were the Ten Commandments and Secretariat. On April 30, 1972, at the age of 11 years he was baptized into the fellowship of the Pilgrim Baptist Church under the services of the late Pastor Horace R. Smith Sr. He had an incredible work ethic and whatever he did he did it with all his might. He retired from the Eastern State Hospital in the Food Service Department after many years of service. He was always playing pranks on his co-workers while making the workplace fun and enjoyable. He was an accomplished Cook in the kitchen and on the grill. On June 18, 2011, Lamont stood before the alter of God and vowed his undying love and affection to the former Tamatha Neubeck and they became husband and wife, Lamont was a wonderful, loving, tender and supportive Husband. They shared their hopes and dreams in life, and they lived most of them out. They loved to travel to Florida to visit family. Lamont was Preceded in death by his father: Oliver M. Smith Jr., Grandparents: Horace M. and Mary Louise Patton, Rev. Joseph D. and Arnetta Smith Clayborne, and Oliver M. and Estella Miller Smith Sr., one nephew: Joshua L. Whie, one niece: Roslyn Thomas. One Cousin/Brother Manuel (Big Percy) Patton, and Eight Uncles, and Eight Aunts. Lamont leaves to cherish his precious memory, the love of his life who was his faithful wife; Tamatha N. Smith, a loving Mother: Dorothy E. Smith, Stepsons: Christopher Alexander (Bryanna) Davis and Bobby Eaton, a caring Sister: Angela M. White, Three steadfast Brothers: Deacon Eric D. (Lorna) Smith Sr., Vandree D. (Elizabeth) Smith Sr., and Antoine L. (Tiffany) Smith. A tender Mother-in-Law: Tina Thompson, Brother-in-Law: Thomas Neubeck Jr., two Sisters-in-Law: Amy Blackburn and Jennifer Harris, One Aunt: Alice L. Patton, Special Cousin: James A. (Kaye) Patton his best friend from childhood: Marcus Ivory, very close Friends: Gloria Foley, Angela M. Taylor, Dewayne Johnson, William Conners, Geno Washington, Terry Cherry, Richie Bell, Steve Maxberry Rob Creekmore, Eddie Beatty, Ron Gaines, and Dwight Gentry, two who were like daughters Emilly Keene, and Alexis Gillipsie and a host of Nieces, Nephews, and other Cousins and Friends who are too numerous to mention.
