Jack Clemons

Jack Clemons, 74, was born on July 18, 1950 in Sharpsburg, Kentucky and departed this life on June 21, 2025 at the Frankfort Trails Rehabilitation Center in Frankfort, Kentucky after a short battle with cancer and other health issues. Jack was the son of William F. Clemons (Mickey) and Besline Boyd. He also had a special mother and aunt, Augustine Boyd who helped raise him following the death of his mother, Besline during childbirth. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, his sibling Elaine Clemons, and his best friend and wife of 42 years, Shirley Clemons whom he married in Winchester in 1973, and his furbaby, “Bear”. When Jack and Shirley moved to Lexington in the late 1970’s, he worked as a manager of Randall’s and Winn Dixie Supermarkets for several years. Before he retired, he was a Supervisor at ServPro out of Richmond Kentucky. He eventually moved back home to Sharpsburg before his illness would not allow him to live on his own any longer. Jack loved playing tennis in his younger days and was an avid pool player. He also loved detailing his Toyota Camry whenever he was able to do it. He leaves to cherish his memory five siblings; Bill (Phyllis) Clemons (Sharpsburg, KY) Carl Bruce Clemons, Charlotte (Moses) Powell, Nannie Drakes (Dayton, OH), and Brenda Turley (Lexington, KY). He leaves behind five children; Sherilyn (Kirk) Scott-Blackburn, Katrina (Gary) James, Lekeisha (Tony) Ragland, Jack Clemons Jr. and Hazel Sexton. He had four grandchildren, Dainisha Scott, Tra’Sean James, Marquise James and Taylor Blackburn and five great-grandchildren, Prince, Caspian, Maclen, Hollis and Remy. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jack was well loved in Sharpsburg and will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a quiet man that kept to himself but wouldn’t hesitate to let you know about “Attitude” which was his walking stick if you got out of line. He was a very protective dad over his girls and made sure that any guy that showed up to the house knew it. He was a man of few words but his personality was as big as life! A memoriam service will be held at 12:00 PM Wednesday, July 2, 2025 at Sharpsburg Greater First Baptist Church located at 247 Montgomery Street, Sharpsburg, KY 40374. Cards and Flowers can be sent to Gary and Katrina James at 3961 Sweetspire Drive, Lexington, KY 40514. Donations can also be made to the Lymphoma Cancer Society in Jack’s honor. Smith and Smith Funeral Home in Lexington KY is handling the cremation remains.
